In their latest novels, Daniel Kehlmann, guest of honor at the Book Fair, and Philippe Collin explore inner struggles, the weight of the past, and the consequences of choices and compromises in historical contexts.
A novelist and playwright, Daniel Kehlmann is one of the most important contemporary German-language authors. His novel Jeux de lumières is a subtly structured work dedicated to the master of German silent cinema, Wilhelm Pabst, who lost himself by agreeing to work for the Reich. Journalist, comic book writer, and historical podcast author, Philippe Collin reached a wide audience with his debut novel, Le Barman du Ritz. It portrays the real-life Franck Meier, a Jewish bartender in Nazi-occupied Paris. Both novels delve into human psychology and the tension between illusion and reality, portraying characters deeply marked by history.
Daniel Kehlmann will be signing books afterward from 14:50 to 15:20.
