Yannis Karlopoulos was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1967. He studied at the Technological Institute of Athens (TEI), in the Faculty of Graphic Arts & Design, from where he graduated in 1989. In 1992, he received a post-graduate degree in Calligraphy and Type Design from École Estienne, Paris (Graduate School of Arts and Printing Industry). He mostly designs books, magazines, fonts, cultural event programmes, and websites. His distinctions include: contributing to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Department of Visual Identity; Design Director of Lambrakis Press (DOL) from 2005 to 2013 (publisher of one of the most prominent newspapers in Greece); member of the Greek Digital Type Library (fonts.gr), in which he has participated since 1996; Founder, Partner, and Creative Director of the Greek photo agency FOS (fosphotos.com); Member of the Board (2015–2017) of the Archaeological Receipts Fund (administrative body for monuments and museums of Greece); creative consultant for LiFO (Athens’ most popular free press magazine and website); Founder and Creative Director of Karlopoulos & Associates design agency.
