Carlsen was founded in 1953, launching the successful Pixi™ book series in 1954. Since then, Carlsen has become one of the big publishing houses on the German market, with board books, picture books, children and young adult fiction as well as manga and comic books. Carlsen was very successful with Harry Potter and Twilight books but also with the works by German authors like Andreas Steinhöfel or Susan Kreller.
