Magdalena Štulcová studied dramaturgy at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Since 1982, she has been translating mainly theatre literature, fiction and non-fiction, with a focus on contemporary fiction (e.g. Josef Winkler, Judith Schalansky, Zoë Jenny, Ralph Dutli, etc.) as well as theatre and radio plays (Felix Mitterer, George Tabori, Lukas Bärfuss, etc.). As a Czech first edition, she also translated Max Frisch’s Antwort aus der Stille [Engl. An Answer from the Silence], Tagebuch 1966-1971 [Engl. Diary 1966-1971] and Aus dem Berliner Journal [Engl. Selections from the Berlin Diary]. In 2011, she was awarded the Creative Prize of the Czech Association of Translators Obec překladatelů for the translation of Dutli's book Soutine's Last Journey. Magdalena Štulcová lives in Prague.
