Founded in Berlin in 2004, the publishing house continues the tradition that began in 1977 with the founding of Matthes & Seitz in Munich by Axel Matthes and Claus Seitz.
Since its re-founding in Berlin, the publishing house has received several awards and has expanded its programme to currently around 100 new publications annually. Important series in the current programme are: Naturkunden, Fröhliche Wissenschaft, Batterien, Französische Bibliothek, punctum and the newly established Asiathek.
