Dr. Gissel Velarde is an AI Author and Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Universidad Privada Boliviana with over 20 years of experience in engineering and computer science. Beyond her technical contributions to AI and Data Science, she emphasizes the importance of education and AI strategies for economic growth. Her research is published in "Artificial Era: Predictions, Problems, and Diversity in AI" by Oxford University Press. She earned her Ph.D. from Aalborg University in 2017 and holds degrees from South Westphalia FH and Universidad Católica Boliviana. Dr. Velarde develops AI and machine learning algorithms and received Vodafone Star Awards for her work. She has worked with Moodagent, SONY Computer Science Laboratories, Miebach, and Hansa. As a lecturer at UPB, she received a teaching award for her course on Selected Topics in Artificial Intelligence. In 2020, she was named a Notable Woman in research by ISMIR and selected as one of 120 technologists by the Top Women Tech Summit in Brussels in 2019, 2020, and 2022.
