Portrait of Carolina Schutti
Carolina Schuetti

Schuetti was born in Innsbruck, where she still lives. She studied Germanic philology, English and American studies, classical guitar and classical voice.

Her publications include short stories, poetry and radio drama. She works with musicians and develops various interdisciplinary projects. Schutti has received several awards for his literary work, including the European Union Prize for Literature. Her books have been published in 20 countries.

Schutti is known for her powerful and poetic books, which pay particular attention to those on the margins of society. Her texts are continually about identity, about home, about escape from bleak living conditions, and about guilt and innocence.

Her most recent novel, Ocean Breeze, portrays the power that books and education can have through the story of two lower-class sisters living in isolation who are shown that the world has more for them than a life of poverty and lies.
