Joachim Kaps studied European Cultural Studies, Modern German Literature, and Graphic Design in Marburg. He later worked in the comics industry, becoming Head of Comics at Carlsen Verlag. He then served as Managing Director of TOKYOPOP Germany, specialising in manga.

Now, with Altraverse, he has founded his own manga publishing house in Hamburg, aiming to expand the market with new products and audiences.
