Aufbau Verlage is one of the last independent publishing houses in the German-speaking world and is majority-owned by the non-profit foundation Kommunikationsaufbau. This ensures its long-term financial and editorial independence. Its origins lie in the Aufbau Verlag, founded in East Berlin in 1945, into which other publishing houses were integrated after the accession of the new federal states: Rütten & Loening and aufbau taschenbuch verlag atb in 2006, Blumenbar in 2011, Edition Braus in 2019, Ch. Links Verlag in 2020 and Die Andere Bibliothek in 2021. The books, e-books (aufbau digital) and audio books (aufbau audio) published by Aufbau Verlage discover literary talent, publish world literature, entertain and stimulate debate.
