Austrian author and translator Peter Waterhouse presents his new essay Další stanice – Hören wir auf zu übertreiben [Engl. Other Stations – Let's not exaggerate] at the “Das Buch” exhibition. A train journey to the Czech Republic becomes the trigger for reflections on borders, languages, border crossings (concrete and metaphorical), until Czech and German become ‘nearly identical' languages and one merges into the other. The guidebook for this excursion is Hašek's Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka za světové války (The Good Soldier Švejk). The text was written as part of the author's work on a major prose project about his grandparents, who were born in Troppau.
The discussion with the author will be moderated by the Italian Germanist Vincenza Scuderi.
The reading and subsequent discussion with the author will take place in German and Czech with live interpretation.
