Every family knows how stressful mornings can be. This picture book story playfully explores the parallel universes children and their parents get caught up in in the morning, and the ways different ideas and needs clash. To make things less hectic, bestselling author and child psychiatrist Jakob Hein has a simple but extremely helpful practical tip that families can easily recreate themselves: drawing coloured fields on a paper clock, to represent the most important activities – for example, 10 minutes for waking up and cuddling, 15 minutes to get dressed, and so on. The coloured fields on the clock face allow even very young children to see which activity is up next and how much time there is left until then. The funny story appeals to both parents and children and sets them up for a morning routine that is that little bit less stressful.

On the balcony of the apartment where Lisbeth and Kali live with their mother, with Grandma Magda and Grandpa Udini, a cockatiel is sitting and pecking popcorn. The children bring it into the house, because (of course) they want to keep it. But that’s not so easy. It turns out that the cockatiel has escaped from a supervised flat-sharing community for young people. And that’s where Kentucky, Lisbeth’s archenemy from her class, lives.
From then on, nothing feels right anymore: what Kentucky tells everyone about his family is obviously not true. Mika, Lisbeth’s best friend, suddenly becomes friends with Kentucky and Lisbeth feels betrayed. Dad works as an Asian noodle box. But, as often in life, opening up to each other helps: Lisbeth and Mika find out, how important their friendship is to them, but that they can also include others. And Lisbeth realises that she feels sympathy for Kentucky, even if that's not the most convenient thing to feel right now.
“Very, very funny, incredibly well told and linguistically a dream!”
Johannes Kößler, ORF Good Morning Austria
“A moving and stirring story about friendship and enmity.”

I am a tomcat – a big, beautiful red tabby. For many years now I’ve been observing humans and their habits. And let’s face it – they’re rather strange! They give you food that tastes of bird or fish instead of mouse or rat. And they let that horrible wet water run straight down over their heads! Another mystery to cats is why they hold a piece of paper in front of their face instead of scratching it. Or why dark sofas aren’t considered a good place for cats like me to lie on. Really, it’s no wonder that humans think computers and glass tablets are great inventions, but mice and balls of wool aren’t. They simply don’t understand enough about life!

It’s often good to be alone, and there are quite a few things you can do alone: sit in a tree and look around, read, make noise or stand on one leg. But no matter how many times you try, you can’t tickle yourself. It just doesn’t work! And there is something much more beautiful that you can’t do alone either. And for that the children even forget about tickling …
“It puts physical contact in the foreground and encourages children to play, copy and try things out. In play they learn that although it is often good to be alone, there are many beautiful things that can only be experienced together.”

Finally – books that portray diversity in everyday life, where everyone can recognise themselves. Books that reflect life: vibrant, authentic, joyful, courageous, and full of surprises.

Nele has never hated her father’s job (as an agent in a magical witness protection programme) as much she does...
Nele has never hated her father’s job (as an agent in a magical witness protection programme) as much she does on the day when Romy suddenly enters their lives. She is absolutely unbearable, and is a genuine princess from the magical kingdom of Marabel. There’s a lot of unrest in her country, and the royal family is in danger, so Nele and her father have to keep her well hidden. But does P stand for Princess? P for Pain would be more appropriate! Because Romy, who has to pretend to be Nele’s cousin when they go to school, simply hasn’t a clue about how normal people behave. And to make matters worse, she has the gift of magic, and this plunges Nele into one crazy situation after another. But then suddenly it’s Romy who is in trouble and needs a true friend…
THE CANDY GUILD was awarded the Lovely Books Reader’s Prize 2020 for children’s books.
Enthusiastic booksellers deliver their verdict:
“Crazy, I’ve just savoured THE CANDY GUILD, because it is such a good, exciting, mysterious, enchanting and (of course) sugar-sweet book! Performing magic with sweet stuff – fancy that! It’s spectacularly spectacular! What’s more, we have here a breathtaking adventure which shows how important friendship is. I’m absolutely delighted and feel as if I’ve been coated with icing sugar! Great, great, great! And luckily volume 2 has already been announced!”
Lisa Leiteritz, THALIA Bookshop, Marburg
“A magical adventure which is full of excitement, secrets and friendship.”
Carina Nickenig, Thalia Bookshop, Neuwied
“An absolutely wonderful tale of friendship wrapped in a chocolaty-exciting, shower-of-powder-tingling adventure!”

Customer reviews:
“Get ready for an especially magic journey.”
Corinna Z.
“I really enjoyed this journey from the first to the last page, and joined the three friends in trying to solve puzzles and getting all worked up, and I also smiled and laughed a lot […].”
Ina Vainohullu
“A sugar-sweet, magical adventure with a lot of warm-heartedness.”
Daniela Anders
“Sugar-sweet, toffeetastic, gloriously chocolaty and just enchantingly beautiful – a magic reading treat for young and old!”
Corni Holmes
“From the very first page I was enchanted by Tanja Voosen, completely under her magic spell, covered in the most delicious bonbons and from then on transported into an adventure the like of which I’ve never experienced before. Tanja Voosen’s writing is light, easy to understand, quite comical and crazy, and had me laughing, gasping, crying, cheering and dreaming.”
Fairys Wonderland
Tanja Voosen works as a full-time can opener for her fat cat Tiger and uses her free hours to write books for children and young people. She was born in Cologne in 1989, but escaped to the Eifel region shortly afterwards where to this day she continues to wander through the forests in search of a magical adventure. Despite her ‘sweet talents,’ she prefers to leave it to her fictional characters to create magical sweets, as her creations always seem to disappear immediately in some strange way. Like all true authors, she has countless shelves full of books and is always finding her ideas from completely absurd dreams.
Clara Vath has been working as a freelance illustrator since 2012. She illustrates books, magazines and other products, and often finds herself wandering through the worlds of adventure and fantasy.

Everything around him is still the same as before: everyday life with his mother, the routes through the city, school, classmates, the theater group. But Felix has changed since his swimming coach crossed a line that no one is allowed to cross without consent. Felix was blindsided and since then he has felt dirty, worthless and unlovable. The memory haunts him like a monster that appears when he least expects it. Felix is desperate to keep what has happened a secret – he feels ashamed. He withdraws from the people around him and when friends get close to him, he becomes aggressive. Only with his schoolmate Alva and with his grandparents does he feel safe. But the monster won’t rest until Felix’s secret comes to light.
“An insanely good and important book for young people that addresses a difficult subject superbly and incredibly sensitively.”

They know how to use YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok before they learn how to read. For children, digital media mainly consist of games and videos. The task of education is to teach children how to use digital media creatively and independently. Therefore, the modern curriculum includes teaching a strategic use of digital media. This handy flip-up book helps teachers to start teaching digital media and at the same time serves as a reference book.
It offers a compact, modular pool of ideas for the use of digital media in the classroom, such as getting to grips with tablets, doing research on the internet, working with learning apps, creating a stop-motion film, easy programming with Scratch or Calliope mini and more.
On each of the 27 double pages, teachers will find information on a digital medium or app and an example of its use.
