Every child knows feelings of fear, joy, anger and sadness. Kathrin Schärer gives a face to 30 emotions in expressive animal pictures: a meerkat stands resolutely on a diving board: he is courageous. A stoat jiggles nervously from one foot to the other in the queue: she is impatient. Two piglets stare at a ghost with their eyes open and their mouths wide – they are terrified. A little bear shyly hides behind his mother. In an offended pose, a chameleon crosses its arms. Angrily the rabbit stomps his paw.
A treasure chest of emotions, in which even the smallest readers can discover and recognise, name and distinguish feelings.

A passionate plea for change and a new start...
A passionate plea for change and a new start
The climate crisis, animal welfare, justice. Children have a clear position on these issues and are demanding change. When is something finally going to happen and why is it so difficult for adults to change? Gerda Raidt explores these children's questions through many pictures and short texts and reveals the global dimensions behind our food, our clothing, our mobility and our energy production. In doing so, it becomes clear that processes which happen "far away" are directly related to our actions here and now. And despite all the obstacles, a new start is possible.

NO! Piggo doesn’t want to get up! It’s cosy and warm in bed. That’s how it all starts. Because Piggo has to get up. At least that’s what Mum says. And get dressed. And eat his porridge. And brush his teeth. But Piggo doesn’t want to. Not one little bit. No! No! No! No matter what Mum says or how much she scolds. But Mum keeps quiet and puts Piggo on the back of her bike. Without his jacket and gumboots. They arrive at kindergarten much too late. And then Mum leaves again very quickly. Piggo’s tummy is rumbling and he’s cold too. Saying no isn’t any fun at all today! Will Mum come back soon? Yes, there she is! And finally, she takes Piggo into her arms!

In the apartment building where the twins Nikosch and Nini live, there's always something going on. Everyone knows each other, kids grow up together. But from one day to the next, all doors stay closed; contact with other people is now too dangerous, because of this virus. The children are no longer allowed to play with each other, go outside or go to school… it feels like Groundhog Day. Bit by bit, the apartments become too cramped, and tensions rise, because everyday life is too stressful. But in the midst of this unnerving boredom, the twins notice something: in the fancy house on the opposite side of the street a torchlight flashes at night. Again and again. A morse code: SOS!

Summer at the lake. For the children it is both familiar and unknown. The big one tells the little one horror stories about the Wallrass, which lives deep down where the lake is darkest. From then on, the little one prefers to play on the shore and only goes into the water with an air mattress.
When one day they play pirates and yet row out onto the lake, the big one makes the air mattress capsize. The small one falls into the water and sinks. And sure enough: where the water is blackest, he meets the Wallrass. But unlike in the stories, it is gentle and soft and carefully carries him back to the shore. When he tells the big one about it, the big one laughs at him, because he just made the Wallrass up.
The little one, on the other hand, knows that no matter what the big one tells him, from now on he no longer has to fear the depth and darkness of the lake.

Wilson Bentley lives on a farm in the vastness of America with his older brother and his parents. The two boys are supposed to support their parents in their work and become good farmers. This leads to conflicts, because Wilson is a dreamy boy who spends a lot of time thinking and is fascinated by the little things in the world: the peculiarities of leaves, stones and snow crystals, which particularly fascinate him. It becomes the passion of his life to depict and preserve the delicate and fading crystals. Nobody in the area has any interest in Wilson’s eccentric ideas and people cannot comprehend his enthusiasm. When he gives a lecture in the village about his work and shows the photos of the crystals, he is met with a lack of understanding. But for Wilson's father, something fundamental changes that evening: he realizes the value he has so far ignored.

Goaway the bat is not only super-cute and a bit clumsy, but does everything completely differently from all the other bats in the world. She sleeps at night and is VERY active during the day. She learns to ride a bike, celebrates her birthday and enjoys every single adventure. At night, just like her readers, she becomes sleepy and enjoys being exhausted from all her daytime adventures.
"Wiebke Rauers has illustrated this bat in such a cute way, you'll want to scoop her straight up and cuddle her!“

Our hidden day-to-day companions
Did you know that bacteria are the only organisms that can survive without sun, and that one even lived to be 250 million years old? That mammals wouldn't exist without viruses, and that they are even present in our genes?
Biologists Karsten Brensing and Katrin Linke open the door to a fascinating world we've only had the vaguest idea of until now. From viruses, bacteria and fungi to hygiene and our immune system, they examine everything in meticulous detail and show how very tiny things can have a huge impact on our lives!
Where does life come from? What is a pandemic? How does our immune system work? What do we need to know about hygiene? The behavioural biologist and bestselling author Dr Karsten Brensing, famous from radio, TV and print media, and biologist and science journalist Katrin Linke present astonishing facts about viruses (like the coronavirus), bacteria and fungi based on the latest scientific research.
