The first in a new series of feelgood read-aloud books featuring topics like urban gardening, sustainability and the joy of gardening in the urban jungle. Kathy and her parents used to live in Grandma’s apple orchard in the country. When she and her family move to the big city, it takes her a while to get used to the hustle and bustle, the noise and the sheer number of people. But Kathy wouldn’t be Kathy if her outgoing nature didn’t help her make friends quickly.
Together with her new friend, city boy Theo, she explores the city and soon finds the odd green patch even here. Cheerful and true-to-life, the Kathy read-aloud books tell everyday stories that ‘reading-aloud-age’ children can identify with. They describe a sheltered but not idyllicised child- hood in the city, and everything that comes with it: family life, friendships, kindergarten/school, children’s worries and how we grow through dealing with them. Nature, sustainability and mindfulness play an important role and, in passing, the books touch upon everyday nature-related topics drawn from children’s experiences, such as harvesting apples, setting up a plot to attract snails, planting flowers, insect hotels, etc.

Rock-a-bye koala, on the treetop... When children are tired, they go to bed. But do you know where koalas sleep? How do elephants curl up when they’re tired? And what is the fat hippo’s favourite position to dream in?
In witty rhymes, Sabine Ludwig tells us all about the sometimes surprising sleep habits of animals around the world. With Kerstin Schoene’s delightful pictures, it’s the ideal book to read together when it’s time for bed.
• An entertaining picture book about going to sleep: perfect bedtime reading

Six illustrated stories about Korny’s new preschool feature sweet episodes drawn from everyday life to look at and read aloud.
Korny is new to preschool and joins the Blue Polka Dot group. There are so many wonderful things to play with, and Korny makes new friends there too: Kati, for example, who is always helpful, and Paul, who is very clever. Only Eugene is sometimes mean. But then Bella the teacher steps in and helps resolve the tension. Korny particularly enjoys gymnastics. Paul takes a tumble while jumping, and everyone is worried. Paul has hurt himself, but thankfully it’s not serious. And soon Korny turns his attention to the next game with his preschool friends: scooter taxi!

After little Major Tom and his astronaut girlfriend Stella bring their Chinese friends back to the ISS, new adventures await them. In the latest book, Volume 12, Yuki the robot dog is to be tested for his abilities in space. It quickly turns out that Yuki can do everything better and faster than Plutinchen the robot cat.
The roboticists at the ground station are delighted with the excellent results of the robot dog and are considering replacing Plutinchen with Yuki. But Tom and Stella are only moderately enthusiastic about it. As a final, comprehensive test, an emergency simulation is planned, in which all crew members will have to prove themselves, and which will determine Plutinchen’s future. But then there is a real, unplanned emergency, and the robot cat really does find himself in danger...

The tooth fairy always rings twice. Twelve-year-old Luis’s first go at ice hockey has resulted in one less tooth in his mouth. Instead, he now has a totally mad tooth fairy on his cheek, and he’s the only one who can see it – even though he doesn’t believe in any of that unscientific nonsense! But the irate apprentice fairy has a problem: if she doesn’t get hold of Luis’s tooth, she’ll lose her licence for ever.
But the Wild Boars have kept the gnasher as a trophy – and Luis really wants to join their gang. When his fellow pupil Lina comes to his aid, he dares to hope: will he manage to get rid of the embarrassing fairy, and be accepted by the Wild Boars?
• It’s every twelve-year-old’s nightmare: Luis is being pursued by an angry tooth fairy!
• A madcap story about a reluctant friendship, and what it means to stick together

On a peaceful, clear moonlit night, Philipp lies in bed, counting the stars quietly. All of a sudden, he hears a rustling sound coming from under his bed. From an open book, its pages are flipping rapidly. The next moment – Philipp can’t believe his eyes – a tiny dragon flies out of the story, calling for help. Just as Phillip decides to help the dragon, he shrinks to the dragon’s size. This and other exciting stories of dragons, monsters and planets far, far away illustrate that friendship, bravery and courage count much more than being big.

Sixteen-year-old Maia finds herself in an exciting phase of her life, but also a dangerous one: shortly before her A-levels.
As one of three children, each with a different father, she is sometimes subject to ridicule, but she does not let people push her aside. Flippant, with two best girl friends and a little hip fat, she goes bravely through life. She is true to herself and stands by her friends, come what may. Maia writes down her emotions here, using pictures to fill in the blanks when she cannot find the right words. The style is both free and witty, sensitive and vulnerable – just like Maia herself.

When an unusual pair of sneakers is found at the Berlin Marathon, a reporter sets off on a different kind of race: he wants to be the first to find out who wore these shoes, who designed them and where they were manufactured.
His journey takes him from brand designers in Germany to product pirates in China to cheap labour in Ethiopia. He discovers how the competition for resources, and cheap manufacturing, shape the complex structure of world trade. This book illustrates the mechanisms and connections of globalisation in the form of a gripping story.
